Yes, He Did It!

Sometime ago, I wrote about my mischievous Black Lab. I did owe him an apology.

Last year, I knew physical circumstances would keep me tethered to the house. I planned my bucket garden as I had a fruitful harvest to the point that Ive still produce in the freezer.

My garden was some four feet off the ground. No rabbits or squirrels to worry about and the motion lights would keep the deer away. Even the usual garden bugs did not bother my garden.

For health reasons I had to place the bucket garden along the sidewalk at the front of the house and some against the house. I knew the Lab would not let any animal near his " chillin " spot, the front steps.

I had twenty one lettuce plants of many varieties and colors. Gone.

I had jalapeno peppers. Gone

I had green peppers, known by some as bell peppers. Gone

I had yellow peppers. Gone

Dog. Gone.

He was in self imposed exile during the day. I heard him return to the front steps that night.

Oh, yes I love my Latin dishes!

Also growing was stevia. I had discovered stevia in the packs and love the taste better than sugar. Watching the plant grow north of the equator kept me in awe of it.

I'd bought the lemons to make lemonade. I had an appointment and left the carport watching the plant as I drove off. I could not wait to return and make my lemonade.

I was going to squeeze the lemons and become a mad chemist to determine how many leaves I needed to crush to make the lemonade to my liking.

A few hours later, I returned and the first thing I noticed...no stevia plant.

I have a number of succulents with sharp pointed edges that can give one a new determination set on the sidewalk next to the lawn. Mixed in those plants I had cilantro, peppermints, rosemary and a philodendron that at one time was over seventy feet sprawled in every direction and the Lab thought it a nice place to rest. Dead! A precious cousin told me to water the dead plant in the same pot.

I was taught to listen to the wisdom of my Elders. I did and yes, it is thriving and the Lab has ignored it. The Lab has also ignored the peppermints and rosemary. The heat has killed the cilantro.

For what that brat has cost in plants, potting soils, fertilizer, and a few decorative pots, I could have spent the money at the supermarket and saved my energy.

Yes, the Lab did it!
