Does any else dislike the commercials urging people to buy "X-Y-Z" if they are in a certain life category because "The Government will pay for it"?
Hey, Madison Avenue ad makers, WE are the government! We who contribute to the economy of this Country are to pay those bills
When I hear those commercials, my mind snaps back to my childhood. I was good at causing my Grandparents' and Mom's hearts to stop. Here is one: "If people have to be married to have babies, how does Miss Xenia have so many babies?" I'd got a different from each of them.
My relatives were not too happy to support the floozy and her life style when they had worked so hard for us to have a decent life. Grandfather had retired from a great job. Nana went to work two weeks after Grandfather retired. She said, "Someone had to leave the house." Mom's job kept her working long hours. I was Grandpa's charge.
Many years have passed and so have the family members. My friendly chatters kept me apprised of Miss Xenia over the years. She owns a house valued about the price of a Maybach! She never married. She travels and is "retired". I have seen her a couple times in the past fifty years. She told me she had a job. Yikes! All her children were in school; so she went to work. So Welfare must have stopped sending her checks.
If there was some way to get the Government to pay for "X-Y-Z", today, I bet she would have whatever is being offered.
So we wonder what is wrong with our national economy. Healthy floozies and the ilk have learned to sit back, relax, collect the monthly check and the hard workers cannot get their unemployment checks or a job.
Burn some incense, something stinks in America!

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)You make a very good point! It's amazing how there's almost total dissociation between the money that the government has to spend and where it actually comes from. This whole business of tax - everywhere, not just in the US - has me flummoxed. How did governments get to accrue so much power that they can discriminate who they steal money from, and spend it however they want?Thank you for your kind words.I really wanted to blast the Welfare system, however what happened over fifty years ago, I pray does not happen today. . Also the "Mothers" Day" money does not come through the postal service any more. The "Miss Xenias no longer wait in their windows or doorways to see the postman coming. The "Mom's" get debit cards to spend money. We'll never know how "The Government" is being ripped off. That same card works in beauty parlors, nail salons and liquor stores, and yes, grocery stores. How many that really need benefits get left out because of the Miss Xenias have learned to use and beat the system?
Thank you for saying this. I have known a number of people like Ms. Xenia and it baffled me. When my first husband left me with a new born baby I accepted welfare until I could work again (about 3 months). To me it was always a hand up not a hand out or a life style choice.GraceGrace, I give you a "high five" for being a productive person. You set the bar for your child to be productive also. Yes, to a "hand up and not a hand out or life style".
Patricia, you are so right. I admire you for having the nerve to attack political correctness like you have done in this article. You definitely get a high-5 from me, and I don't care who doesn't like it!That's the trouble with the welfare state: People often get rewarded for laziness and punished for hard work. It's no wonder that our country is in the kind of shape that's it's in. And here's another problem with those healthly floozies and welfare queens like your Miss Xenia: Very often they'll get help from the government and private charities when people who really need it - such as the elderly and disabled - are turned away and neglected. When my mother was growing up, her mother was a disabled widow and could not afford to buy her school supplies. When she asked for help from social services, she was told there was nothing they could do. There was woman in the same town who was never married, but had several children. Guess what, social services was bending over backwards to give this woman and her children all the help they needed. That kind of stuff just makes me so sick.Thank you Terry. The climate I grew up in was to do the best and be the best. One of the first "jobs" our all girls' fourth grade class had was to pack Red Cross boxes for the children in Divided Germany. We girls were expected to use our own money to purchase the items for the boxes. I bought Colgate Tooth Powder and a child's sized toothbrush. When we finished the boxes we were proud of our little selves. We did a good job for others. We were fortunate to be able to help the children in Divided Germany. Mom always wondered when we'd help our kin on the Reservations. That answer has yet to be answered. This is an election year. The "bull**** air" is blowing hot and stinking. Grab the candidates in a public forum and ask their thoughts of the ilks of "Miss Xenia", welfare fraud expert. For those who are not familiar with a Maybach, it is an offshore made car that costs about $360,000.oo.. It made the news recently when a priviliged sixteen year old got one for his birthday.
Those ads get under my skin too. There was a time when I needed help and I hated going there, it was awful and you should hear what the professional check collectors would talk about. Amazing. I am grateful it was there when I needed help, but I didn't appreciate the abuse then or now.Thank you, Linda. I'm sure the commenters are from different parts of the USA, yet those in position to aid one in need appear to have the same "ethics". Deny, red tape, inspections and then they let the likes of "Miss Xenia" slip through on a free ride to a comfortable life on the backs of babies whose fathers are probably never listed on any document.
