What Is Your Favorite Summer Vacation?

Should I ever tell of the best summer vacation spot, I'll never be happy there again, because too many people will be there.
One of the last things I did as a single lady was walk to our pocket-park, sit and overlook the harbor and the ships going out and coming in. That day was ambivalent joy.
My second favorite vacation is a quick overnight get-a-way. I've friends and distant relatives in the area. Time has claimed those I knew best. We all moved to this area from our hometown. They taught me the highways byways and eateries to enjoy the area.
I leave the hotel and go to the shore, walk until I find the perfect bench for the day and enjoy the palm trees and watching the tankers come in with crude. I love seeing the names of the ships especially if the names are not in English. I get a chance to use the languages of my youth.
The container vessels with the soon to be off-loaded trailers have many foreign names and I'm busy pronouncing the names.
I enjoy seeing lighthouses any place. Knowing that no two lighthouses are painted or shaped alike adds to my adventurous wandering mind. If I see deckhands, I wave to them. Yes they are welcome. I imagine the last time they were with their families and wonder when they'll return to them.
I meander the quaint one-of-a-kind shops, spend some money and return to the hotel before Happy Hour ends. Because of a special educational facility for adults is nearby, the conversation at Happy Hour is great. The other guests are from all over the world. Everyone is friendly. Some speak in their native tongue. I love eaves dropping. From them, I've never heard a word worth repeating.
If friends know I'm in the area, I may have visitors. Sometimes, I'll get a telephone call.
When the sandman calls, I respond. Showering, and roaming my suite, remembering the day and days long gone, sends me to the pillow.
The morning comes fast and I awake salivating because, the chefs in the atrium are preparing cooked to order breakfasts.
I get ready for the day and ride the wafts of aromas to the atrium. I see many from the Happy Hour of the evening before. After breakfast, I return to my suite, remember the housekeeper with a "president" on my pillow.
I check out, put my luggage in the car and roam at the other malls along the Interstate on my way home.

Top-level comments on this article: (1 total)container vessels and lighthouses, I`m just wondering where this is, what state, what area? Did I miss it?Purposely, I left off the name of my favorite close to home to get away from all that know me. I leave the computer and telephones at home. This is a moment of refreshment of breathing different air and not seeing the usual people. When the friends join me, we all are "hiding" out for a day or two. Everyone needs a break.
I'd not call my escapade a "stay-cation" but a "day-cation or two".
Any coastal region of the U. S. has lighthouses. The coastal areas have chain motels and the better class hotels have pretty much the same fare. However, my favorite, I will not disclose has some of the most brilliant minds of our country in residence while in their specialized studies a the nearby institution of higher learning.
So, grab an atlas, scan the U. S. seacoasts, Google the area, pick a spot, check the Chamber of Commerce or Visitors' Center; make reservations; go and have a grand time.Yes, I Google areas. Now, that I`m a Senior ... I am planning to travel more. I have only been to Washington. Thanks for commenting-back.
