The Importance of Friends

There is nothing better! My little pals in the school yard are my pals today. Because I lie about my age, I'll only admit to knowing my pals for over forty years.
We played together. We went to day camp together. We roamed all over Boston together. Thank God there were no cell phones or GPS systems in those days. Our parents were connected enough. We'd really have sore butts for the places we roamed as little girls. We were safe. We felt safe. Had someone tried to grab one of us, they'd have had a pack of girls committing mayhem on the poor soul.
As we aged, if one was sick, we felt the ailment. We'd keep each other in good humor.
We thought the worst to happen to us was graduating from high school and going our
separate ways. It never came to fruition. We knew each other's schedules and we
found time even for a few minutes to chat on the telephone. When we could find time
to see each other it was an automatic party of "catch up".
I was the youngest of our group and the firstto marry. Mom did not want to sign.
My pals were in the formal wedding. My Groom was the best Marine ever in the Corps. When
his ship was picking up astronauts, my pals made sure I was fine in our big house.
Mom died weeks before her over the top wedding.
We've been together through the rough days of death too. We held each other up.
When the Marine who was also a Baptist minister, which I learned after we were
engaged took me away to New Jersey to a piece of "our paradise" on the Delaware River. The girls would visit, so I'd not be lonesome when he was away.
My high partying ways had waned. I was so in love with my Darling, I'd walked on
glass if I knew it would have made him happy.
Arguments and quarrels were not welcome in our home!!! We had a happy home.
We loved working in our flower garden that we'd hide vegetables. We looked
like cartoon characters covered in dirt and the end of a busy day.
Death took him from me and my pals were available to me. I went through hell and
so did my pals.
I'm too many miles away from home but thanks to telephones, e-mails, FedEX, UPS,
overnight seafood flights, and the Postal Service, we are still together. If anything
we are all closer.

The years of living has given us some medical conditions, we continue by the
Grace of God and are planning a get-together in the next year.
Those are my important friends
